WW2 and Post War Western Europe Unit, 1939-2000
Introductory Essay
The WW2 unit covers from 1939-1945. Most of the emphasis on this unit is placed on the European fronts and Total War in a few participating countries. This is a major prep for a Paper Three question, and is of interest to HL students.
The follow-on Western Europe Unit deals with: Cold War Origins: impact on Germany, NATO and military cooperation; Post-war problems and political and economic recovery in Western Europe: devastation; debt 1945-9; Establishment and consolidation of the Federal Republic of Germany to German reunification; Moves towards political and economic integration, cooperation and enlargement post-1945: EEC, EC; Spain: Franco’s regime and the transition to, and establishment of, democracy under Juan Carlos.
